Waking up is probably the most challenging time of the day for anyone. We have scheduled workouts for the morning, we’re hungry for breakfast, and all our family members are always bustling around us.
Today, I hope I’ve made my best effort to relieve my stress and de-stress from work. I will step into the gym with mindfulness. I want to be calm and poised when I’m there so I can leave on a high note, instead of with a bad attitude.
Catering To Your Employees
Employees at many companies are the first to notice that their boss starts late, to the point that they make fun of them at the office. What is going on here? You might assume that because you’re the boss, you have no right to be late. Well, if you look a little deeper, you’ll find that there’s actually a reason this has become an issue.
Let’s think about it. There’s not an overnight solution to this problem, so what can you do? There’s a science behind punctuality that one of my clients found out recently. Scientifically speaking, to be on time for an appointment, you need to be about 8 percent to 11 percent more productive than others (their average productivity).
The idea is that when we’re at a slower pace than others, our brain takes the time to register mental information. This enables us to make better decisions. It’s not, as some may think, because we’re behind on our sleep. It has much more to do with the prefrontal cortex, which gets less of a workout in the middle of the night.
But, we all have to rest our brains. It doesn’t matter how busy you are, or how bright your day is. That’s why you have to allow your brain to sleep for 7 hours for it to work at its best, and know how to rest and refresh so it can produce its maximum productivity.
The need to be on time is a small price to pay to ensure our brain is working at its best, so we can really be the best manager we can be for our clients. Why not look for ways to help your team be more successful, and help them to be on time too? Let’s give your team time to recover and rest to be more productive.
Breathing and mindful relaxation is the perfect solution to help to release our anxiety and start an afternoon of success and purpose.
One way to approach such a task is by having your team lay down for a few minutes and look at something beautiful or peaceful to stimulate their eyes. Your team needs to open up to visualize how life might be if they were 5 years younger. They need to feel invigorated to be able to build upon the great work that they have been doing, so lay down and look at beautiful scenery or flowers to lift their mood. This can be just as effective in any size of office.
As they lay down, if they want to relax, they can wrap their arms around someone and close their eyes. Just give your team a few moments of zen.
Think about the consequences of being on time – that’s going to be held against you. This is where I think that meditation, breathing, and mindfulness can help.
